A Mystical Christmas

Mystical Christmas explores the Metaphysic of the Christmas Story told in the Gospels. Ancient mystics used the process of encoding a deeper message in their teaching by using the meanings of names and places and the relationships between them. During the Holiday season one's attention can be distracted from the personal beauty and profound meaning by a wide range of images, expectations and demands. Each year we have the opportunity to celebrate our own personal journey. This workshop will use ideas, images and process to guide participants in drawing from their own inner well of wisdom to re-calibrate their life preparing for the year ahead.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend so that Christmas 2011 will be filled with a deep sense of wonder.

Our time together will be divided into three distinct parts. First we will look at the original story in the Biblical text. We will begin by remembering the Christmas story and its beauty as it was told to us as children, reflecting on the simple images we have from the Bible stories.

In the middle part of the program, we will explore the deep mystical and symbolic parts of the story. In this segment we will draw on the insights given to us by Charles Fillmore known to much of the world as an American Mystic. Looking at this story with the tools Charles has given us opens us to an expanded view of the birth of Jesus the Christ.

Finally using interactive techniques we will explore the Christmas story in a personal context. We will recognize how the story unfolds in our own experience and explore how we can put to practical use the wonderful insights we have gained.

The celebration of the birth and the re-birth of the Christ Child will be richer than ever before. Your life will never be the same!

Bio

Rev. Daniel Douglas has served the Unity Movement for 38 years as a Senior Minister in California, Ohio and Syracuse, New York where, as an infant, he was the first child baptized in that ministry. At different times Daniel has accepted assignments outside of the formal ministry bringing Unity's rich spiritual heritage into everyday activities. He is Father to four and Grandfather to five and has recently, along with his wife Love, relocated to Orange County to help their youngest daughter raise her two small children. This diverse background nurtures his insight and application of spiritual principles in life.

Terry McBride's speeches, seminars and published works all have the same central theme:

People have unlimited abilities that can be realized through conscious choice.

His message and knowing wasn't developed from the comfort of an armchair. From his early twenties to his mid thirty's, he had 27 major surgeries on his spine and abdomen. At times he was not expected to live. His doctors told him the infection in his spine was not curable and the best he could hope for was to live within his human limitations, with a colostomy, and the inevitability of "significant permanent disability".

Terry decided to fight that prognosis and through studying and applying the principles of success coupled with his self-determination, he created perfect health where there seemed only disease.

In 1974, after five years as a practicing Certified Public Accountant, Terry opened his own consulting firm. Since then, he has assisted individuals and organizations by inspiring people to believe in themselves and stay on track to get the results they want. His speeches and seminars focus on the wonder and magnificence of the human condition and how choice can be used to demonstrate this wonder and magnificence to ourselves.

He weaves these ideas into clear understandable concepts:

Terry McBride is an internationally recognized speaker and author of the critically acclaimed book "The Hell I Can't". One of the many things I admire about the teachings of Unity is that we believe there are many paths to ones spiritual awakening. Sometimes these paths seem to be in conflict with one another. Learning to go with the flow is not the same game as learning how to change the course of the river. Accepting your human limitations is not the same as understanding that you are unlimited. Giving up your ego centered desires is not the same as making your dreams and desires a reality.

The choice you have is which of the great spiritual paths do you want to follow? As Charles Fillmore states throughout his writings, "Our perspective should cause us to know that when we work, we should work definitely for what we want." He continues and says, "Therefore you may know that everything you do, say, or think carries with it Divine Authority". Of course some would say that is his ego talking.

Jay will be presenting a talk titled "Humans in Healing: the shift from Fear to Love"

"The Western Qabalistic-Hermetic Tradition", Guest Speaker: Allen Notle

On the first Sunday in May- this year, May 1, 2011 – (or other times during the year) churches around the world dedicate their worship to a celebration of our interfaith world. Progressive Christians thank God for religious diversity! We don't claim that our religion is superior to all others. We recognize that other religions can be as good for others as ours is for us. We can grow closer to God and deeper in compassion—and we can understand our own traditions better—through a more intimate awareness of the world's religions. On PLURALISM SUNDAY, churches celebrate elements of other world faiths in their sermons, litanies, and music; many feature speakers and singers from other faith traditions.

PLURALISM SUNDAY is initiated by The Center for Progressive Christianity—a network of hundreds of churches nationwide. Our congregations have adopted a "Welcome Statement" that affirms that other religions can be as good for their followers as Christianity is for us.

UNITY will be participating with a guest speaker.

Allen Nolte, began his inner journey at the California State College at Fullerton where he attained a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Psychology. He has a wide variety of interests including Quantum Mechanics, Biology, Mysticism, Qabalah, Tarot, Esoteric Astrology, Alchemy, Ancient Cultures, History, and Eastern Philosophies.

In 1975 be became involved with and joined "Builders of the Adytum" centered in Los Angeles California. B.O.T.A. is a true Mystery School; an international, non-profit, teaching Order and an outer vehicle of the Inner Spiritual Hierarchy, sometimes called the Inner School, which guides the evolution of Man. Its system is that of the Western, Qabalistic-Hermetic tradition, and its teachings have been handed down from Adepts to Initiates since very ancient times. The founder of B.O.T.A., Dr. Paul Foster Case, was such an Adept.

Many people are of the impression that the Arts of Astrology, Tarot and Alchemy were created to foretell future events. What most do not know is that the Esoteric aspects of these Ancient Hermetic Arts constituted an interlocking system of studies and practices which served as the foundation of the Western Mystery training for many generations. The particular potency of this system lies in its use of symbols, which are a universal language that directly instructs sub consciousness with its pictorial wisdom, regardless of language differences.

Missy Bystrom, author, speaker, and a leading personal organizer in Orange County, California will be speaking on March 27, 2011 at Unity's Sunday Service on Creating Balance with Intention. She will also be facilitating an afternoon workshop that same day from 1:00-3:00PM titled "Clearing the Clutter From Your Life."

For more than 24 years, Missy has been been putting thing in order in homes and businesses. She creates functional spaces as well as peace and harmony both without (one's environment), as well as 'within' (spirit, soul, light space). The key to her success is in understanding and intentionally creating balance in all that she encounters. Missy does this by listening to how each person relates to their space and to their being. With a background in counseling and Social Work, Missy weaves her client's individuality, as well as where they are on their journey into every circumstance.

There is no "formula" for good organization, as each space should reflect the needs and comfort of the person, business or family. "Although we are all 'one', we relate to the world with different perceptions, conditioning, fears, and comfort levels," says Missy.

Missy's business, The Organized Connection was born in 2006 when she and her family moved to The OC. She has had the opportunity and the blessing to serve a wide range of households, high profile clientele, businesses and groups. She has been speaking and training groups since 1994. USLC welcomes back Dr. Will Tuttle!

Will Tuttle, an acclaimed writer, educator, pianist, and composer, has presented widely throughout North America and Europe. Author of The World Peace Diet and recipient of The Peace Abbey's distinguished Courage of Conscience Award, he has also taught over 20 different courses at the college level, including courses in mythology, philosophy, comparative religion, and creativity.

His Ph.D. dissertation in education from the University of California, Berkeley, focused on educating intuition in adults and was nominated for the Best Dissertation Award. A Dharma Master in the Zen tradition, he has done intensive training in Korea, and has practiced meditation for over 35 years, studying contemplative Christianity, and a variety of non-Western spiritual traditions.

He is devoted to planetary awakening through spiritual education and to spreading uplifting original music through concerts and his critically-acclaimed albums, the latest being The Call, OceanPrayer, SkyHigh, AnimalSongs, Islands of Light, and Ascension.

Simultaneously, Madeleine creates a 9" x 12" watercolor painting also inspired by your essence, not a physical likeness but a unique artistic blend of evocative images.

Many people have found these sessions to be particularly helpful for increased self-understanding, healing, love, and in times of transition.

The suggested donation is $135.00 and includes the half-hour session of music, the CD of your music, and the painting, all using highest quality materials. If you'd like, Madeleine can mount and frame your painting as well.

The Roadmap Home: Your GPS to Inner Peace - Sunday, August 8, 2010

Leonard Szymczak, MSW, LCSW, has been a psychotherapist and educator for over 35 years, both in Australia and America, working with individuals, couples, families and groups. He was Director of the Family Therapy Program at the Marriage and Family Centre in Sydney, Australia and later served as a senior affiliate therapist with the Family Institute at Northwestern University. His new book is The Roadmap Home: Your GPS to Inner Peace. He is also the author of the novel Cuckoo Forevermore, a light-hearted satire on psychotherapy, and its sequel, Kookaburra’s Last Laugh, due out in 2010.

Leonard has conducted countless seminars and presentations and has written numerous articles on mental health, personal development, stress management, and relationship building. Throughout his life, Leonard has been committed to ongoing personal growth and believes firmly in the power of the individual to overcome adversity and transform one’s life.

Like the mythologist Joseph Campbell, he utilizes the concept of the hero’s journey to help individuals reshape their stories into amazing adventures. Our country, and even our world, is struggling right now under the misunderstanding that we’re in a crisis of insurmountable proportions. The news tells us that it’s bound to get worse. Politicians can’t help but compare what we’re experiencing now with the Great Depression. We need to know now more than ever: It’s all in how you frame the circumstances, and how much God you bring to bear on them.

In this presentation that I started working on in the late fall of 2008 when I was invited to address the people of Iceland after their country went bankrupt, I lay out a “bailout plan,” not one that’s national and political, but one that is personal and spiritual. Packed with lots of humor and touching stories, the lesson makes the following points:

• Live richly. It’s not about your net worth today versus a year ago today. It’s about finding delight in every day.
• Watch your words. We can talk ourselves into fear – and out of it. We need uplifting words in conversation and affirmation. My favorite affirmation for the present time is: “I am energetic, charismatic, and irrepressible.”
• Keep good company. We need positive people around us to remind us of the Truth.
• Keep tithing. God wants us to prosper at all times and in all circumstances, and He’s given us this dependable tool to make that happen.
• Look for the good – the God – in everything. The seed of magic and wonder and greater good is in everything, even situations we see as negative. This is a twist in the plot, not the end of the story. Look for God, and give Him a chance to bless you.
